Out of the about 14 flights that Turkish Airlines has to Lisbon per week (two daily), most are offered through the Boeing 737-800, while only a handful are serviced by their A330.  I was lucky enough to be on one of them today.
This was a heavy travel week even for me, with six flights in six days and about twenty five hours spent flying, so I did my best to make them comfortable by flying Business. Turkish has some of the cheapest Business fares to many of my destinations, and with their fabulous food on board, this makes them one of the best value for money airlines in the industry.
I arrived at the Ataturk airport about one and a half hours before departures, which was more than enough time since I do not check in bags and was already carrying my boarding pass. Plus, Turkish has this special perk whereby their Business Class passengers and Elite Miles & Smiles cardholders can go through security directly at their lavish Lounge. I was airside and inside the TK lounge literally less than 10 minutes after the hotel shuttle dropped me off at the airport, in time for a quick bite.
About 45 minutes before departure time, the displays showed it was time to go to Gate 310, a 10 minute walk from the lounge. Upon arrival there, there was little to no queue and I promptly got inside the bus that took me to the aircraft (Gates 300-312 at Ataturk require a bus shuttle).
As soon as I got in I was shown my way to the seat, where I found the standard pillow and blanket. I got offered a juice (I took the fresh lemonade) and asked for another pillow since I wanted to have some rest after just 4 hours of sleep at the hotel.
There was no amenity kit offered on this flight
Soon after take off we were offered breakfast, which looked and tasted very well, the normal standard at TK. I especially enjoyed their hot pastries, which they offered after handing in the trays.
After a quick breakfast, I proceeded to enjoy my lieflat seat and watch a great movie (Foxcatcher) on their IFE (In Flight Entertainment System) as I hoped tiredness would catch up with me and I would get some much needed sleep. I fell asleep soon after and I thoroughly enjoyed my fully flat seat, which more than accomodates my 6″3 (90cm), so I must finish watching Foxcatcher at some other time, since it certainly seems deserving.
Overall, yet another fantastic experience on TK. Service was good, the hard product is great (fully lie-flat) and while not hugely required (day flight less than 6 hours long), it made the flight that much better. I’ll certainly be back to Turkish Airlines soon!
